Creating a Signature Product in BakeSmart

Signature Products in BakeSmart allow you to take a Custom Product and lock down certain choices to create a finished item. Think of Signature Products as your bakery’s “set recipes” — they are built on the foundation of a Custom Product but presented to staff and customers with limited or no options to modify.

Step 1: Start a New Signature Product

  1. From the Product Gallery or Product List, click NEW PRODUCT.
  2. Choose Signature Product as the product type.
  3. From the Signature Collections list, select the appropriate Signature Collection you’ve created from your Custom Products (e.g., Custom Cakes, Custom Cupcakes, Custom Cookies).

Step 2: Product Details

  1. Name: Enter a clear name that staff and customers will recognize.

  • Example: Chocolate Fudge Cake or Vanilla Cupcake with Sprinkles.

2.Price Type: Select the appropriate option:

  •   Each – One set price per product.
  •   Variable – Price entered manually at order time.
  •    Per Serving – Useful for Custom Products priced by serving (e.g., cakes).

  3. Add a Photo and Description for staff and eCommerce display.

  4. Add Employee Notes for internal instructions.

  5. Apply Tax Rules as required.

  • Assign the product to the correct Category and Subcategory (for reporting, POS navigation, and eCommerce display).

Step 3: Selections Tab

This is where you connect your Signature Product back to its Base Product and decide which selections will be locked vs. left open.

  1. Click +Add Custom Product.
  2. Search for and select the Base Product (the Custom Product you created from a Collection).

Once added, you’ll see the available selections from that base (e.g., flavor, frosting, filling, decorations).

Decide which to pre-select (lock down) and which to leave open:

  • Pre-Select → Locks in the choice so it’s always the same (e.g., Vanilla Buttercream Frosting).
  • Leave Open → Staff or customers choose at ordering (e.g., Chocolate or Vanilla Cake).

For decorations, you may want to lock in a seasonal or signature decoration and set No Additional Decoration to prevent extras.

Step 4: Settings & Availability

Go to the Settings Tab to configure:

  • Departments (for reporting).
  • Product Codes and Receipt Names (for checkout clarity).
  • Sort Order (for menu placement).
  • Product Alerts (if needed).
  • Ingredients & Allergies (for compliance and customer communication).

Go to the Availability Tab to configure:

  • POS Availability (whether staff can sell it directly in-store).
  • Online Availability (if this Signature Product should be available on eCommerce).
  • Scheduling (set lead times, days of the week, or seasonal availability).

Step 5: Save the Product

  • Click Save to finalize.
You now have a Signature Product built from a Custom Product available for staff and/or customers to order.

Why Use Signature Products?

  • Streamlined Ordering – Customers see a finished product without unnecessary custom choices.
  • Production Accuracy – The linked Base Product drives Production Reports so bakers know exactly what to produce.
  • Flexibility – You choose which selections are locked and which remain open.
  • Consistency – Ensures products are sold the same way every time.
