Understanding Product Navigation in BakeSmart

Products are the foundation of your BakeSmart system—impacting everything from in-store transactions to online orders and backend reporting. To keep your product catalog accurate, organized, and up to date, it's important to understand the two primary areas where product-related actions take place: the Settings Menu and the Products Tab on the Dashboard. This article breaks down the purpose of each and when to use them.

1. Settings Menu – Company-Wide Product Controls

Located at Settings > Products, this menu houses your bakery’s product infrastructure. These settings impact how products behave across the system and should be established early in setup.

Use this area to manage:

Seasons – Define when specific products are orderable (e.g., holiday or limited-time items).

Departments – Assign internal production or reporting groups for better tracking.

Bulk Import – Upload or update large batches of products using the Master Product Spreadsheet.

🛠️ Use the Settings Menu when:

Structuring your product catalog

Launching a new seasonal menu

Uploading or updating multiple products at once

Aligning backend reporting or production workflows

Think of this section as your foundation—ideal for setup and system-wide changes.


2. Products Tab on the Dashboard – Day-to-Day Product Management

Found at the top of your Dashboard, the Products Tab is where your team will spend most of their time. This is your operational hub for daily product adjustments and maintenance.

Here, you can:

Add new products one at a time

Edit names, prices, images, and descriptions

Update product availability, categories, and modifiers

Reassign departments or apply Option Lists (modifiers)

The Products Tab includes three helpful views:

Product Gallery View – A card-style visual layout grouped by category

Product List View – A sortable list of all products

Product Types View – An advanced organizational layout for editing options and categories

🧭 Use the Products Tab when:

Making quick product edits or additions

Updating prices or images

Adjusting categories, subcategories, or modifiers

Maintaining your catalog across POS and eCommerce
