Product Naming Guidelines for BakeSmart Setup
What Can Be Accessed
Every product in your BakeSmart catalog must have a unique, descriptive name. Proper product naming is essential for:
- Accurate product tracking in reports
- Easy searchability in the POS and eCommerce store
- Error-free order entry and fulfillment
- Smooth onboarding and system setup
Recommended Naming Formats
Choose one of the two formats below and use it consistently across all products:
Format 1:
Flavor, Product – Size
Examples:
- Apple Pie – 10 inch
- Red Velvet Cupcake – Jumbo
Format 2:
Product – Flavor – Size
Examples:
- Pie – Apple – 10 inch
- Cupcake – Red Velvet – Jumbo
💡 Choose the format that aligns best with your internal naming style—but stick with one format consistently for clarity and reporting.
⚠️ Naming Mistakes to Avoid
Avoid these common errors to ensure system accuracy:
- Do not use placeholder names like “Cake 1” or “Donut A”
- Do not rely on Category or Subcategory columns for identification
- These fields do not appear in order screens, receipts, or reports
- Do not use vague or generic names (e.g., “Cupcake” or “6” Cake”)
- Do not combine multiple variations in one name (e.g., “Cake – Chocolate or Vanilla”)
Size Formatting Tips (For Sorting & Reporting)
Use leading zeros for all sizes under 10 inches to improve sort order in reports and dropdowns:
✅ Correct: 06 inch, 07 inch, 08 inch
❌ Avoid: 6 inch, 8 inch
💡 Leading zeros ensure sizes appear in proper numerical order (e.g., 06 → 08 → 10 → 12).
Optional Display Names in BakeSmart
In addition to the main product name, BakeSmart allows you to define:
- Name for Receipt – What prints on customer receipts
- Name for Reports – Internal display name used in sales and admin reports
💡 Use this if your full product name is long but you want a shorter version for printing or reporting.
