Credit Card Processing & PCI Compliance: CardPointe Support, Merchant ID & Setup

BakeSmart runs your bakery. CardPointe runs your payments. This guide shows you who to call, where to find your Merchant ID, and how to get PCI compliant.

Credit Card Processing with CardPointe

The short version: BakeSmart does not process credit cards. We partner with CardPointe for that. BakeSmart runs your POS, online ordering and order management. CardPointe moves the money. So for questions about a charge, a deposit, a statement or your merchant account, CardPointe is the team to call.

Finding Your Merchant ID (MID)

CardPointe and SecureTrust will both ask for your Merchant ID, so it's worth knowing where to find it.

In BakeSmart, go to: Settings > Payments > Credit Cards > Edit Merchant Accounts

Most bakeries have two MIDs:

  • Card Present: cards run in person, at the POS or for in-person orders
  • Card Not Present: cards you don't see in person, like eCommerce orders, phone orders and payment requests

When you call CardPointe about a payment, give the MID that matches how the card was run. A declined online order goes with your Card Not Present MID. A problem at the counter goes with your Card Present MID.

Tip: Write down both MIDs and label them clearly. Keep them somewhere easy to grab when you're on the phone, like the office binder or a note in your phone.

PCI Compliance

Any business that accepts credit cards has to show each year that it handles card data safely. This is called PCI Compliance. You complete it through SecureTrust, CardPointe's compliance partner.

Already PCI Compliant?

If your existing merchant account is already PCI compliant, let your activation specialist know. You may be able to upload your current certificate instead of starting over. See "Already Have a Certificate?" below.

Before You Start

  • You have 60 days to become compliant. After that, your account is charged a monthly PCI non-compliance fee.
  • Wait about a week after your account is set up. It takes a few days for your Merchant ID to register with SecureTrust. If you try too early, the portal may not recognize you.
  • Have your company name and Merchant ID ready. You'll find your MIDs in BakeSmart under Settings > Payments > Credit Cards > Edit Merchant Accounts.
  • Questions go to SecureTrust. For liability reasons, neither BakeSmart nor CardPointe can help you answer the PCI questionnaire. If you get stuck, call SecureTrust at (877) 257-0239. They also offer chat and online help inside the portal.

Step by Step

1. Log in
Go to the SecureTrust PCI Portal. Use the username and password from your SecureTrust welcome email, then create a new password when it asks.
No welcome email? Click Register on the login page and enroll with your company name and Merchant ID.

2. Build your business profile
Click Start Business Profile and answer the questions about how you take card payments (counter terminal, online ordering and so on). Check the box to confirm you've read the PCI DSS v4.0 notice. Your answers decide which questions come next, so you only see the ones that apply to you.

3. Complete any network scanning
This step only appears if your setup needs it. If it does, the portal walks you through it.

4. Answer the Security Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ)
From your dashboard, click Manage on "Complete security assessment." Answer each question Yes, No or N/A. Many answers are filled in for you from your business profile, and each question has an info box explaining what it means.

5. Confirm and you're done
Once your dashboard shows green checkmarks and "You're compliant," you're finished. Your renewal date is shown in the top-left box, and you can download your Attestation of Compliance (AOC) for your records.

6. Stay compliant
SecureTrust emails you when it's time to renew or when anything else is due.

Already Have a Certificate?

If you're already compliant through a previous account, you may be able to upload your existing Attestation of Compliance (AOC) instead of retaking the questionnaire.

  1. When asked, choose that you have an existing attestation and select the assessment type listed on your certificate (for example, SAQ B).
  2. On your dashboard, click Begin Step, then Upload, and attach your AOC.
  3. Confirm the details (assessment type, validation date and PCI version), check the boxes and click Attest.
