How to Build Custom Sugar Cookies (for Cookie Shape Reporting)
This article covers how to:
- Create a Custom Collection for Sugar Cookies
- Add Shapes, Flavors, Frostings, and Decorations
- Set Up Upcharges in the Setup Matrix
- Create a Custom Product from the Collection
Step 1: Create a Custom Collection
From the Dashboard, go to Products > Product Types > Custom Collection.
Click NEW COLLECTION.
Title it something clear, like Sugar Cookie CUSTOM.
Add the following Available Sections (these are the options customers will see when ordering products built with this blueprint):
- Shapes
- Sizes
- Decorations
- Flavor (only if you sell in more than one flavor)
- Frosting (only if you offer multiple flavors or icing types)
Under Shapes, add all cookie cutter shapes you offer.
- 💡 You can add an unlimited number of shapes.
At the bottom, check:
- Include in Ordering – makes products from this collection available for in-store ordering.
- Include Online – makes products from this collection available for online ordering.
✅ If you want both, click both boxes.
Click SAVE COLLECTION.
Step 2: Add Flavors & Frostings
- Go to the Selections tab in the Custom Collections toolbar.
- Click Add Selection List.
- Title the list Sugar Cookie Flavors.
- Add each flavor one at a time.
- Repeat for Frostings if you sell more than one type (e.g., buttercream, royal icing, fondant).
Step 3: Configure Upcharges (Setup Matrix)
Go to the Setup Matrix tab.
Add a size called Sugar Cookie with description “Sugar Cookie.”
Create a Quality Group for each upcharge amount.
- Example: Sugar Cookie .25 → adds $0.25 per cookie if selected.
- Repeat this for each upcharge value needed.
Use consistent naming (e.g., Sugar Cookie .25, Sugar Cookie .50, etc.) for clarity in reporting.
Step 4: Add Decorations & Packaging
- Go to the Decorations tab in the Custom Collections toolbar.
- Click Add Decoration List.
- Name it Sugar Cookie Decorations.
- Add decoration types (sprinkles, fondant, edible glitter, etc.).
- Consider adding Packaging as a decoration option (e.g., bagged, bagged with ribbon, unbagged).
- Assign these decoration lists to your Sugar Cookie order flow.
- 💡 You can also lock them onto pre-designed Signature Sugar Cookies (e.g., seasonal or wedding designs).
Step 5: Create a Custom Product from the Collection
From the Dashboard, go to Products > Product List.
- Click NEW PRODUCT.
- Select Custom Collection.
- Choose Sugar Cookie CUSTOM as the base.
- On the Details Page:
- Select the Shape of the cookie you are creating.
- Name the cookie clearly.
- Price the cookie.
- Add any Minimum Order Amounts in the Note for Employees field.
- 📝 These notes pop up for staff during custom order entry.
- Add an Image of the cookie.
- Add a Product Description (customer-facing).
- Leave Servings blank (not applicable for cookies).
- Under Override Size Group, choose Sugar Cookie.
- Make sure Tax Information is correct (e.g., Sales Tax or Baked Goods Tax).
- ✅ Proper tax setup ensures accurate reporting and receipts.
5. Click SAVE.
Tips & Notes
- Organize cookie shapes carefully — the Shape Report depends on this setup.
- Use consistent naming for flavors, frostings, and quality groups.
- Packaging options as decorations give you flexibility for charging and tracking presentation add-ons.
- Notes for Employees are a great way to enforce minimums (e.g., “Minimum order: 12 cookies”).
