Creating Flavor and Selection Lists in BakeSmart

Before you can build Custom Products in BakeSmart, you’ll often need to define the Flavor and other Selection Lists (such as Frostings or Fillings) that can be assigned to those products. These lists allow you to limit customer choices and streamline production.

For example, if your bakery only offers Vanilla and Chocolate cake flavors for cupcakes, you don’t want every possible flavor in your system showing up at ordering time. BakeSmart makes this easy with Custom Selections.

Navigate to Selections

1. From the Dashboard, click Products.
2. In the left-hand menu, select Product Types > Custom.
3. In the middle tab list, click Selections.

This will display all existing Flavor, Frosting, and Filling lists that can be applied to Custom Products.

Create a Flavor List

1. Click +Add Flavor List in the top right.

2. Give the list a clear, specific name (e.g., Cake – Standard Flavor Choices or Cupcake – Seasonal Flavor Choices).

3. Assign Max Selections for Ordering and eCommerce.

• Example: For cupcakes, leave this at 1 and 1 (a cupcake has a single flavor).
• Example: For tiered cakes, you may allow multiple selections to support alternating layers.

4. Under Selections, click +Add Option.

5. Add each flavor you want to offer (e.g., Vanilla, Chocolate, Lemon).

• (Optional) Apply a Quality Level if you charge extra for certain flavors (Standard, Premium, or Special).

6. Click Save when finished.

Step 3: Create Other Selection Lists (Frostings, Fillings, etc.)

Follow the same process for other customizable selections:

• Frosting List – e.g., Vanilla Buttercream, Chocolate Buttercream, Cream Cheese.
• Filling List – e.g., Strawberry Jam, Bavarian Cream, Ganache.

Click Save for each list you create.

Step 4: Review Your Lists

Once complete, you now have tailored selection lists to use when building products. Examples:

• Cake – Standard Flavor Choices → Vanilla, Chocolate, Lemon
• Cake – Standard Frosting Choices → Vanilla Buttercream, Chocolate Buttercream, Cream Cheese
• Cake – Standard Filling Choices → Strawberry Jam, Ganache

These lists will be assigned to Custom Products, ensuring only the correct selections are available at ordering or when creating Signature Products.

• Streamlines Reporting – Bakers only see relevant choices on production reports.
