How to Add/Edit Options Lists in BakeSmart
What Are Option Lists?
Option Lists are predefined sets of choices that can be added to a product at the time of sale or order. These modifiers allow customers or team members to tailor products easily.
Examples:
- Bread: Sliced, Not Sliced
- Coffee: Espresso Shot, Vanilla Syrup, Whole Milk
Using Option Lists ensures that your product variations are clearly defined, prices stay accurate, and order flow remains consistent across POS and online systems.

BakeSmart Rules: Option List Pricing and Behavior
Option Lists = Modifiers
Modifiers are flexible tools used for sizing, flavor selection, packaging, toppings, fillings, etc.
Best Practices for Pricing
- Assign the base price to the core product.
- Let modifiers build on that base for additional cost.
Example:
- Base Cupcake: $3.00
- Filling Modifier: +$0.50
- Topping Modifier: +$1.00
- Total: $4.50
This ensures consistency across all order methods and pricing tools.
Required or Limited Selections
You can force a required selection or cap how many can be chosen:
- Require a choice (e.g., choose at least 1 filling)
- Limit choices (e.g., choose up to 2 toppings)
These settings are available within the option list itself.
Example Setup: Latte with Modifiers
Base Product:
- Latte 16oz – $4.00
Option Lists:
- Size Upgrade: 20oz (+$0.50), 24oz (+$1.00)
- Extra Shot: Add Espresso (+$1.00)
- Iced: No charge
✅ Require selection on the size list so staff must choose 16, 20, or 24 oz at order time.
Best Practices
Keep It Simple – Avoid too many choices; make it easy to navigate.
Use Logical Grouping – Keep toppings together, sizes together, etc.
Audit Regularly – Remove outdated options and clean up confusing entries.
Avoid Variable Pricing in Customer-Facing Lists – It’s harder to track and can confuse your buyers.
