How to Add/Edit Options Lists in BakeSmart

Option lists in BakeSmart allow you to add flexibility and customization to your standard products. By defining options like sizes, flavors, or toppings—often called modifiers—you can streamline the order process for both your staff and customers.

What Are Option Lists?

Option Lists are predefined sets of choices that can be added to a product at the time of sale or order. These modifiers allow customers or team members to tailor products easily.

Examples:

  • Bread: Sliced, Not Sliced
  • Coffee: Espresso Shot, Vanilla Syrup, Whole Milk

Using Option Lists ensures that your product variations are clearly defined, prices stay accurate, and order flow remains consistent across POS and online systems.

Navigating to Option Lists

To access Option Lists:

  1. From the Dashboard, click on the Products tab.
  2. Navigate to Product Types (Standard view loads by default).
  3. Click the Options tab.

Creating a New Option List

  1. Click Add Option List.
  2. Enter a List Name (e.g., “Sandwich Toppings”).
  3. Add individual options:
  4. Click Add Option.
  5. Enter an Option Name (e.g., “Cheddar Cheese”).
  6. Add a Price if needed (e.g., $2.00). Leave blank for no added cost.
  7. Select Variable Price if the amount is entered at the time of sale.
  8. Repeat for all necessary modifiers.
  9. Click Save Option List when finished.

Assigning Option Lists to Products

From the Dashboard, go to Products.

  1. Select the product to customize.
  2. Click the Options tab inside the product.
  3. Click Add Option List and select your desired list from the dropdown.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Repeat for any products that require this customization.

Editing or Deleting Option Lists

To Edit:

  1. Go to Products > Product Types > Options tab.
  2. Click the pencil icon next to the list you wish to change.
  3. Modify names, options, or prices.
  4. Click Save Option List.

To Delete:

  1. Click the pencil icon on the list you wish to remove.
  2. Click Delete Option List, then confirm.

Deleting a list will not remove the product itself, but it will strip the assigned option list from it.

BakeSmart Rules: Option List Pricing and Behavior

Option Lists = Modifiers

Modifiers are flexible tools used for sizing, flavor selection, packaging, toppings, fillings, etc.

Best Practices for Pricing

  • Assign the base price to the core product.
  • Let modifiers build on that base for additional cost.

Example:

  • Base Cupcake: $3.00
  • Filling Modifier: +$0.50
  • Topping Modifier: +$1.00
  • Total: $4.50

This ensures consistency across all order methods and pricing tools.

Required or Limited Selections

You can force a required selection or cap how many can be chosen:

  • Require a choice (e.g., choose at least 1 filling)
  • Limit choices (e.g., choose up to 2 toppings)

These settings are available within the option list itself.

Example Setup: Latte with Modifiers

Base Product:

  • Latte 16oz – $4.00

Option Lists:

  • Size Upgrade: 20oz (+$0.50), 24oz (+$1.00)
  • Extra Shot: Add Espresso (+$1.00)
  • Iced: No charge

Require selection on the size list so staff must choose 16, 20, or 24 oz at order time.

Best Practices

Keep It Simple – Avoid too many choices; make it easy to navigate.

Use Logical Grouping – Keep toppings together, sizes together, etc.

Audit Regularly – Remove outdated options and clean up confusing entries.

Avoid Variable Pricing in Customer-Facing Lists – It’s harder to track and can confuse your buyers.
